35 Best Offline Android Games (2021) to Play without the ...

Hello again my dear readers, it's been a while! Hope all of you are well and safe!
PES2020 had been a downward slope for me overall, with the lack of offline event variety and legend releases being the real deal-breakers that almost prompted me to quit the game outright. Thankfully KONAMI fixed the latter half of the problem at the end of the season, sparked a wave of excitement for me and I got my hands on a few good legend players. To give credit where it's due, IMs were a touch of genius from KONAMI, as I believe they bring a nice balance between the dynamics of F2P and P2P. Moreover, permanently setting the conditions of legends and IMs to B is simply fantastic. Some of you in the sub believe legends have hidden stats; well, that's your hidden stats right there.
With PES2020 coming to a close, I think it's the time again to re-re-review every legend in my collection (I really hope you guys don't find these boring tbh, but I do really enjoy reviewing my legends) and give proper recognition to the new legends/IMs I gained. The departing Inter / Milan legends also deserve a proper send-off.
To those unfamiliar with my work, my review is purely subjective and your mileage may vary. The effectiveness of a player depends highly on the playstyle, formation and his teammates. Nevertheless, I rate players using a tier system (S > A > B > C etc.). I've also included reference ratings of popular base players for comparison and calibration. Anyone can compare stats on PESDB; in contrast, I try to focus less on the stats and convey how the player feels in actual gameplay.
For my regular followers, I'll avoid repeating myself as much as possible, keeping it short for old players unless I have new opinions about them. Some of you might find my reviews and ratings of certain players to have changed quite significantly this time, mostly due to difference in gameplay of PES2020 vs. previous iterations (e.g. nerfed skill moves, rise of finesse dribbling, nerfed passes etc). Here's a tiny tease to treat the fans: previously exclusive to Cruyff and Vieira, the S+ tier club now tentatively has 5 members! What are their identities? What's with the "tentativeness"? Read on to find out!
An important caveat is that I am a largely F2P & offline player. This means I have very limited access to coins and thus I do not own many IMs / coin-exclusive new legends. Needless to say I have not been lucky in the European legends free pulls, but I've emptied the latest box draws to get the most out of them. Sorry for the incomplete list but that's just the way I roll.
Just to be clear on my stance, I am all for the P2P exclusivity of IMs. In fact, let P2P have coin-exclusive box draws to make sure people get what they want without having to spend a mortgage. I just wish KONAMI can allow the use of GP in legend agents (non-guaranteed draws), so the F2P population has limited but farmable access to any future new legends released.
And without further ado, let the reviews begin!
Unless stated otherwise, all players reviewed below are legends and the reference players are base players. IMs will be explicitly stated. All players are rated by their performances at max level.
GK (reference - - Alisson: A)
TOLDO: A
I used to think of him quite poorly, and quite honestly he still sucked for me earlier this year. Not until recently when I played him again for this review when he finally started to play quite well, using his towering height to his full advantage. As if a last hurrah before getting removed.
Despite all that, I'm not unhappy to see him go, especially since I've got three copies of him waiting to Digivolve into Casillasmon. By the way, KONAMI, I have 3 Toldos and 4 Kahns in my squad. Can I have other non-dupe outfield players instead?
CECH: S- (tentative)
I got Cech, along with several others on this list, very recently in the current box draw. Due to my limited experience of these players, I felt uneasy assigning a definitive rating to them. On the other hand, I didn't want to leave them out as I wanted to help players make their decision on whether to go for them or not. Hence I settled on the tentative rating and review, which should be treated more appropriately as my first impressions.
Cech has been stopping all kinds of shots for me. Powerful long rangers, point-blank first-timers, crosses, he's got them all covered. He's not the best when it comes to rushing out in one-on-ones, he manages to react in about half of those instances. Also he's dreadful against free kicks. His Low Punt skill, quite rare among legend GKs, come in handy quite often.
KAHN: S-
Der Titan has considerably improved compared to PES19, thanks to the buff to defensive GK playstyle. He has been my starting GK for almost all-year. From experience he makes around two-thirds of shots on target against Superstar COM by my estimation, which is not bad at all! Kahn's strength lies in the fact that he's equally good staying on the line and rushing out (he charges at an astonishing pace too!), but the player has to consciously make the right decision. The more I use him, the better I get at noticing the subtle differences between shots that require rushing and shots that don't.
CB (reference - - Koulibaly: A; VVD: S-)
SAMUEL: C+
In this day and age, where you find featured Mbappes, Ronaldos and Rashfords in more teams than they are not, ol' Samuel is simply too slow to keep up. Pairing him with a defensively minded (non build-up) & fast CB might help slightly, or he might work with triple/quadruple CB formations, but that just goes to show how independently unreliable he is.
Adieu, Samuel. Unfortunately you will not be missed.
CAMPBELL: S-
This ex-GB may be upgraded to BB, but his in-game performance seems slightly worse than PES19, when he used to be nigh unstoppable in the air. Again, this may be due to the opponents he's against (looking at you featured Ronaldo/Lewa). That said, with his decent speed and tackling, he's still one of the better defenders in the game.
BERGOMI: S
Got this underrated gem in the European legends draw and has grown quite attached. His skillset is frankly quite extraordinary. He is one of the fastest CBs out there, which makes him excellent in tracking back and covering for the defence. It also makes him an excellent full back as well. His defensive ability is solid, with strong positioning and physicality. He scores additional points for breathtaking long-rangers, even netting several match-winners for me which I'd never forget. Tackles are not first-rate, which is his major setback.
Despite my short time with him, he is one of the three players whose departure greatly saddens me. And the saddest part? I already own all the possible replacements that we know of so far.
MALDINI: S
Still remember getting him in PES18 and he single-handedly revolutionized my defence. The most all-rounded and versatile out of all my defenders, he always finds a place in any defensive line-up. You can literally pair him with any other CB and he'll play well. I was scared af by the thought of losing him but thankfully he survives the snap.
PUYOL: S
This is the second (and final) player I managed to get from the free European legends agents. He's the only player I hoped to get and I was lucky to get him for free. Growing up watching invincible Barca made me respect him as a player. He's also the closest I can get to legendary Chelsea captain Terry, both in terms of playing style and aura of captaincy.
Digressions aside, Puyol is magnificent in the game. He has one of the highest accelerations among CBs, and together with his positioning he is rarely off his mark. His tackles, particularly his standing tackles, are absolutely the best, even ahead of Maldini. Practically steals the ball anywhere near him. He is also majestic in the air and a constant corner threat. Could not have been more happy with him.
BECKENBAUER: S+ (tentative)
Before I go on, I should really stress that I only obtained him for a week, but what I've seen so far has already convinced me to place him in the S+ tier.
In defence, he is performing at the same level as Maldini. Clean tackles, majestic headers and plenty of interceptions due to his masterful ability to read the game. His speed is top-notch among CBs, and he's been showcasing his ability to track back and defend. He's also surprisingly good in the air.
What makes him unique is his offensive capabilities. Even when playing as CB, he charges forward aggressively, with a frequency unmatched by any other so-called offensive CBs like Pique or Ramos. The CB closest to him in offence is perhaps Bergomi, in terms of their finishing and speed, but that's where the similarities end. He has an acute positional sense, pinpoint passing and reliable goalscoring. To put it simply, Beckenbauer has the complete skill set of an AMF.
His 85-rated stamina is often drained around the 80-minute mark, but that is just a testament to the amount of ground he covers. Like his German compatriot Matthaus, his Fighting Spirit skill also helps keeping his performance consistent until the final whistle. I suppose the only problem with Der Kaiser is that playing him in CB is putting his attacking talent to waste, and when he joins the attack there's no guarantee he can make it back in time to defend every threat. For these reasons, he is exceptional at DMF/CMF. I've yet to experiment playing him in other positions like RB/AMF, but I'm pretty sure he excels in whatever position he's being deployed.
LB/RB (reference - - TAA: A)
LIZARAZU: A (tentative)
So far he has been fairly consistent in defence, despite his unimpressive defensive stats; his pace and stamina makes up for his lack of tackling and interception abilities. Nothing to complain about his offensive game either. A solid alternative to Carlos given the limited choice of legendary full-backs.
CARLOS: A
The Brazillian full-back has been solid for me. His work-rate has been excellent, but lately he's been the sort of silent contributor that's hard to notice or appreciate. A tackle here, a run there, but he's not really doing a lot in terms of attacking and crosses. His presence is noticeable but not dazzling. He is also a quality LMF. As for free kick takers, I have better choices.
ZANETTI: S
He is a rock-solid defender who actively charges forward when there's space available, but also knows when to fall back and cover defensive gaps. His endless stamina befits his nickname of El Tractor. His crossing is also impeccable.
I'll likely be getting Cafu as a replacement, but Zanetti's imminent departure from the franchise leaves a gaping hole in my squad and in my heart.
DMF (reference - - Busquets: B+)
PETIT: B-
An average player for all intents and purposes. Interestingly, he positions himself like an Anchor Man despite his playstyle, meaning he stays at the back more often, which suits me just fine. His tackling is merely average; it's sometimes frustrating with him as I find him in good positions more often than most DMFs on this list, but he does so little when given the chance.
PIRLO: B+
Pirlo, Pirlo, why do you pains me so? I really, really liked Pirlo irl. So much so that I've written a long piece about him (and if you haven't done so already, I recommend giving it a read, as it is the piece of work I'm most proud of).
Months have passed and my review of him is largely the same. His defense sucks just as his stats suggest, and his passes and dribbles are not as perfect as his stats seem to suggest. On the other hand, he charges forward quite often and his runs are great. As a result, he's been scoring consistently in open play in addition to his deadly free kicks. His long range curlers from the edge of the box has also been a regular source of goals.
The Italian Maestro is an enigma. He is not your typical DMF. He contributes more offensively than defensively, so bear that in mind when you balance your squad. I would say he functions like a CMF/AMF in terms of offence vs defence.
IM PIRLO: A-
Apparently KONAMI must have read my article of base Pirlo and rewards me with an IM, coz that's the only IM I've got from the recent free draws so far.
Stats-wise, his IM version is nearly identical to his regular version when maxed. In play, IM Pirlo is visibly better at his defensive duties, although still way behind the usual standards of a typical DMF. Offensively, his long range power shots now find the target more often than they did before. Overall the way he plays feel the same, and the IM is just a minor upgrade. You're not missing out if you have the legend version.
CAMBIASSO: A-
A very defensive-minded player who arguably plays better as a CB. He's simply great at defending, very all-rounded in most defensive aspects. The problem with him lies in his lack of contributions to the build up play. He's usually unwilling to move, and that makes me feel I'm missing a midfielder to link up my play, consistently missing one passing option. Also when he decides to involve himself, his low passes (especially through balls) are nowhere as accurate as his stats would make you believe. Similar to Pirlo, he nails one half of the prerequisites for a great DMF, only to absolutely flop the other half.
As solid as he his, there are better DMFs out there so I'm not too sad to say goodbye to the Argentine.
INAMOTO: A
I was initially skeptical when KONAMI gifted me a GB legend; when I tried him out, I only regretted not having done so sooner. He's got a very balanced skill set that enables him to contribute in both defending and attacking. He's got good marking and tackling, can pass the ball well, and can score bangers from range. One of the main duties of my DMFs is to scoop up the loose ball after the opponent defence heads the ball clear in corners, and I notice Inamoto does this extremely reliably. His main drawback is his unimposing stature, meaning he gets outmuscled quite often and concedes possession.
VIEIRA: S+
If you have been in this sub for a while, you would have seen everyone sing praises about him, myself included. This legend deserves every bit of praise he gets, and he simply cannot be better. An absolute monster in defence, with an often overlooked eye for long rangers. The man once scored a hat trick during the first half of a campaign game. This truly extraordinary player proudly retains his position in the S+ tier club.
CMF (reference - - S.M.Savic / Kante: A)
SCHOLES: C+
In stark contrast to the next player on the list, Scholesy is often nowhere to be seen. Sometimes I even forget he's on the pitch. You read his stats and you think, I could do with a complete player like him, and then he turns out to be a complete....disaster. With his playstyle he hangs in the back, but he's terrible at tackling, man marking and headers. Passing play with him is a nightmare, he's either too slow or unwilling to move when he's on the receiving end of a pass. Even his trademark cannonballs are gone; I tried three shots with him just at the edge of the box and none of them ended up on target, and that was during an exhibition match at Regular difficulty. I was thrilled to see him in a GP box draw, and could not be more disappointed.
Despite my one-sided rants above, I'm perhaps in the minority among the sub when it comes to opinions on Scholes. u/big_rom9 once commented he also had problems playing IM Scholes at CMF, but eventually playing him well as SS. Personally yet to try this out, and if anyone has done so please share your experience in the comments! I've also read there's a rather large disparity between his IM and legend versions.
MATTHAUS: S-
The German has always been one of my top players, but his performance this year slightly dipped compared to previous years. His positioning seems a bit off, and his inability to withhold the ball under pressure has never been more apparent. Despite all that, he's still covering miles like the Kante meme, and his interceptions, passes and assists are still top-notch.
LMF/RMF (reference - - Asensio: A)
PIRES: B+
The Frenchman makes good runs, but does very little with it. His finishing is good but not great, and he can't really cross with his weaker left foot. He took a big hit when skill moves were nerfed, and he lost the means of cutting into the middle and score, like a reverse Robben in the left wing.
IM PIRES: A
The IM stat boost here really shows! His runs are much more effective thanks to the hefty boost in offensive awareness, and his finishing is considerably improved by his swerve and kicking power. Unlike his legend counterpart, Pires has become a real goalscoring threat, and defenders will be punished for leaving him alone.
NEDVED: A
I've always held Nedved in very high regard but lately his renowned long rangers have been lacking in accuracy. It is funny how most of his contribution is tied to his goalscoring; take that away and I'm still left with a versatile midfielder with an incredible workrate, but he's just not the same. He's an omnipresent passing option when your team has the ball, but he does little to help win possession back, so basically he's Matthaus halved.
BECHKAM (aged 27): A
Becks is a textbook example of a classic winger: he runs into wide spaces and crosses with pinpoint accuracy. Conversely, play him as a left CMF or left AMF (not many formations have those though), and be amazed by the accuracy of his curlers from range. I still get mad when I see him at DMF just for his OVR though. I toy around him when I see him at DMF in campaign matches. Not even Superstar COM can make him good there, and you know something's gone wrong.
PARK JI-SUNG: A+
The South Korean legend is undoubtedly the best Asian player in the game! He has so much in common with Nedved in PES18: endless stamina (I'm almost convinced his stamina is around 150, judging from his stamina bar at the end of a match), quick on his feet, close ball control, strong passing game, and incredible versatility. Don't let his measly finishing stats fool you too. I've been shooting with him from 20 - 25 yards from goal and getting used to see them fly in untouched. It really goes to show how unreliable stats are; or to look at it another way, how the performance of legends can really catch you by surprise!
AMF (reference - - Mount: B; featured Messi (no.10 campaign): S) (sorry I haven't been using a lot of base players as AMF)
VAN DER VAART: C
Dude's slow. Like, REEEEALLY SLOWWWW. His terrible attacking positioning also does not help at all. Despite his decent passing and goalscoring ability, Van der Vaart is a beaming symbol of a old-fashioned playstyle that has been rendered powerless by the current, physical footballing climate.
DECO: C+ (tentative)
Another AMF with terrible offensive positioning that I did not enjoy using. Deco's slowness is less prominent as he can dribble past defenders, yet that same defender will rapidly catch up and force Deco to pass the ball away. His passing and finishing is slightly worse than Van der Vaart. Notably, he is a rare AMF with the Creative Playmaker style rather than CN10. If you are a fan of that style you might want to check him out, but he's a hard no for me.
ONO: B-
I was surprised to see KONAMI releasing a 94-rated legend for free, but his stats wildly overestimates his ability on the pitch. He's just a normal midfielder that has above average dribbling, passes decently and nothing really impressive up his sleeve.
DJORKAEFF: B-
I used to think highly of him due to his excellent dribbling, but that aspect of him has been nerfed to the ground. Marseille Turn is like an open invitation for tackles, and finess dribbling without physicality to back it up is often disastrous. He remaining strength lies in his surprisingly clinical finishing.
You can probably guess I'm perfectly fine with him getting replaced. The problem is I already own every single legend AMF (I believe), so hopefully KONAMI releases somebody new straight at launch!
GULLIT: B+
If Gullit was just an AMF, I would rate him a B at most. Gullit's biggest strength is his versatility. He's a strong CF with a powerful right foot and great in the air. He's a good CMF/DMF with a strong tackling and intercepting game, coupled with highly effective finesse dribbling thanks to his physical strength. His performance is surprisingly consistent at CB, making tackles ably and great in the air. Did I mention he's great in the air?
NAKATA: B+
Nakata is a surprisingly effective attacker. For me, he plays his best games on either wing. If you have access to one of those rare triple AMF formations, play him on either side; otherwise, he's decent at LMF/RMF, but not as great in central AMF. The timing of his runs are excellent, and he can finish from range. His stamina also keeps him effective for the entire game.
IM NAKAMURA: A-
I recall seeing him in a box draw, and with mountains of GP to spare I decided to go all-in, only to get him in my second try. The renowned free-kick specialist is just as deadly in the game; not quite as godly as Becks or Pirlo, but still comparable with Messi in that regard. His finishing is quite strong in open play, and he's a technically gifted playmaker.
RONALDINHO (GB, aged 39): A
I originally thought of including him as a bit of a joke, and spent the cash to get him fully expecting him to be quite useless (look at what I'll do for you guys!). Turns out, Grandpa Dinho with the Nike headband is not to be messed with. In a world where Busquets can outrun Messi (a.k.a. campaigns), Ronaldinho still manages to outpace defenders with his speed bursts at a ripe old age of thirty-nine and sporting a rather large belly (irl). His long rangers are absolutely lethal. Unsurprisingly, his main drawback is his stamina not lasting the entire match, which is very understandable, to say the least. During the limited time he's on the pitch, his impact is quite remarkable.
ZICO: A+
I notoriously criticized Zico in one of my earlier entries, and since then the White Pele has been consistently improving. Like Nakata, he is most effective on the wing (wide AMF or SS), where his devastating runs and finesse shots are in full effect, and he avoids the amount of pressure he faces when he is deployed in the center.
RONALDINHO: S
If Ronaldinho way past his prime is that good, surely he should be great in his prime? Indeed he is unstoppable, being one of the best finesse dribblers in the game and a deadly eye for goal. He plays as well on the wings as he does in the middle, and when it comes to beating defenders, he has a vast array of options to choose from, be it dazzling dribbles or sudden bursts of speed. In terms of offensive skills, he is the complete package.
If I have one reservation about him, it is his inability to transform the players around him. He shines brightly on his own, but there's only so much a single player can do. He's not a gamechanger, if that makes any sense.
RIVALDO: S+
As someone once said, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get". And in the Brazillian's case, what I got was a perfect offensive player comparable to Cruyff, which are words I never thought I would attribute to a CN10.
Rivaldo is another example that demonstrates the inadequacy of stats in measuring player quality. Contrary to all common stereotypes of CN10s, Rivaldo charges forward all the time, whenever he gets the chance, and always with impeccable timing. His long rangers find the back of the net nine times out of ten. His amazing first touch is reminiscent of Cruyff, where he switches from the receiving end of a pass to a playmaking position in one swift, fluid motion. For those who are complaining about Cruyff being absent in the recent draws, Rivaldo was the next best thing.
Compared to the Dutch grandmaster, Rivaldo is definitely slower, but he makes it up with superior powerful shots. Either way, both S+ tier players have the transformative property that revitalizes the entire offence, bringing out the best in every attacker.
LWF/RWF (reference - - Sterling / Sancho: A; Messi / Ronaldo: S)
GIULY: B- (tentative)
In the short time since I've got him, he has yet to impress me. His picture shares an uncanny resemblance with the ex-Chelsea player Pedro, and the same can be said for his play. He's just a fairly average winger with decent speed and crossing, but he doesn't make intelligent runs as often as I would expect from a Hole Player.
He's another player to be replaced that I probably won't miss. Since the only eligible replacement so far is Figo, I'd say it's worth it to go for Guily if you haven't got Figo yet.
FIGO: S
Now that I've established how players like Nedved and Scholes, experts of their craft, can mess up their long range shooting all the time, the ability to reliably score from outside the box suddenly seem all the more valuable, and Figo does that masterfully with either foot. His long rangers (both power and finesse) are a joy, and his dribbling is elegant and effective. His versatility among the offensive ranks is remarkable. His movement off the ball and accurate passing also allows solid buildup play. He's a breath of fresh air in contrast to speedsters like Sane and Sancho, but this also means I had to adjust my play style to get the best out of him. Overall the Portuguese is a phenomenal winger.
SS (reference - - Dybala: A; Joao Felix: A+)
RECOBA: B+
A striker with a deadly left foot and incredible curl. Unfortunately, his passing is below average for an SS, and he has to be subbed after an hour or so.
I've had a decent time with him, but I'm not at all unhappy to see him get replaced. Several top-tier SSs are still missing in my squad and I'd be thrilled to get my hands on any one of them.
TOTTI: A
The Italian genius plays unlike any other SS on the list. He is considerably stronger than the rest, while his speed and dribbling is sub-par. To use him well, I had to rely on my passing game, which hasn't been the most reliable in PES2020.
BEBETO: A+
Bebeto wrecks havoc in dangerous areas with his runs, sensational dribbles and low centre of gravity. His ambidexterity makes him highly effective on either wing. He is also a great assister thanks to his One-touch Pass ability. His celebration never gets old.
MARADONA: S
I feel like I don't have to elaborate on the strengths of Diego Maradona. The reason he's not S+ is similar to Ronaldinho: the brilliance is in himself and himself only.
IM MARADONA: S
Maradona's free IM version is the most generous guaranteed player KONAMI has ever gifted for free. Despite inferior stats, his ranged shots curl right into the net reliably like his older counterpart. The increased pace and stamina of IM Maradona also balances out his weaker dribbling and passing. Overall the two players are similarly effective in my opinion.
CRUYFF: S+
Again, it feels silly to explain why the Dutch legend is S+ tier. He is simply the most complete attacker in the game with no apparent weaknesses. The kind of player to build a squad around and can turn the tide of a game.
CF (reference - - Auba: A-, Jovic/Kane: A; Haaland: A+; Aguero: S-; Mbappe: S)
YORKE / COLE: B-
The Man Utd twins play so similarly I've decided to group them together. "Adequate" is the word that describes them most adequately, pun intended. Both players are moderately strong, mildly clinical, somewhat quick and position themselves quite well. They have a bit of everything in a typical CF's skillset, but nothing stands out at all.
KLUIVERT: B
At least some clear strengths on this one. The Dutchman is splendid in the air. He's also one of the better dribblers among CFs. On the flip side, he seldom makes useful runs so he's almost restricted to the crossing playstyle.
MASSARO: B+
An often overlooked CF due to his low OVR of 89. His finishing is clinical, positioning is surprisingly solid and he has the strength to withhold the ball. He plays like an ambidextrous Giroud, though weaker in the air.
Since I've got most of the GB CFs, I'm not sure how I feel to see him go. It would be great if I get Inzaghi in exchange, but I believe I've already got all the other good ones.
KOLLER: B+ (tentative)
Aerially dominant just as one would expect of a 2-metre forward. He reminds me of playing PES on the console back in the old days in 2004-05, when crossing was basically OP with Chelsea/Inter. Any cross that reaches Koller basically guarantees a header on target, although the Superstar GKs nowadays tend to save most of those. His right-footed finish isn't half bad either. The best thing about him is his Super-Sub skill, which makes him a great player on the bench and nearly always in top form when subbed in.
SALAS: B+
Salas resembles a SS more than a CF. He's a great retainer and passer of the ball, and his finishing is exceptional; yet, he falls back to support the build up quite often, and he's usually not the one who makes the mazing runs that tear across defences. He mostly scores from one-twos or back passes from a holding forward, someone like his devastating Chilean partner irl. He excels in double CF formations, but don't expect him to perform well on his own.
ZAMORANO: A
Zamorano is an exemplary predator. There's nothing flashy about him, he just gets into the right position and scores. His finishing is top-notch with either power or finesse, despite his stats heavily leaning into the former. The reason he's not higher up on the tier list is occasionally he can be completely contained by a top-tier defender (e.g. Featured Koulibaly).
OWEN: A
You don't have to look hard to notice his uncanny similarity with Aguero. Both men are deadly strikers with low centres of gravity, devastating runs and clinical finishes. Owen's blinding speed looks good on paper, but in reality often does not work when he's being marked by a quick CB. He is often outmuscled during his runs and dispossessed by the slightest of tackles, so he desparately needs another CF / hole player / dummy runner to draw away pressure from him. However, with his top-notch finishing, he converts reliably when he's free from his mark. He is also a surprisingly strong assister.
ADRIANO: A+
The archetypal power forward with beastly strength, speed and shot power. Sadly, Adriano will never be S tier material when he consistently runs out of steam near the hour mark.
He's probably the closest to Ronaldo Nazario we'll ever get, and he will be sorely missed alongside Zanetti and Bergomi. I do hope I get a nice non-duplicate as replacement though.
BATISTUTA: S-
Among all the forwards on the list, Batigol is the most complete player and my go-to choice in single CF formations. He's like the Swiss army knife of CFs, he can do everything extremely well: he can score with power or finesse with either feet, he is a threat in the air, he has strength to retain the ball under pressure, he makes great runs and has enough stamina to last an entire match.
LAW: S
Law is OP in very specific areas: spatial awareness, runs and finishing. Basically like an ambidextrous Zamorano on steroids. What he does have is a very particular set of skills. Skills that make him a nightmare for all defenders alike. If there's a space in the defence or a loose ball around, he will look for it, he will find it, and he will score a goal out of it.
Like Zamorano, his playstyle is atypical and there's a bit of a learning curve. But when you eventually get past it, boy you are in for a ride.
Annoyingly, the AI often auto-subs him off for no apparent reason during half time despite he's still full of stamina. This only happens to Law and I'm still yet to figure out why.
ROMARIO: S+
A lot of people on the sub have recently got hold of Romario in the box draw, and have finally recognized the beauty of this endgame striker. He is simply the best at putting the ball into the net. His incredible speed, unyielding strength and remarkable finishing makes him the most consistent goalscoring threat in my entire legends squad. The more CFs I got, the more I appreciated how rare his remarkable goalscoring ability is. It's unfair but true that goalscoring is the first and foremost way a player can impact the results of a match, so I felt the best player in this department deserves a place in the prestigious S+ club.
And that is the end of my lengthy review! Hopefully this gives an idea of whether to go all-in for a box draw or not. Thanks for sticking with me to the very end! Cheers everyone!

Hailed by the sub as the next Cruyff, I certainly had a hard time defending against him. He seems to be another true all-round attacker which can strengthen any squad.

Can you blame me as a Chelsea fan? He will always be a true legend close to my heart, and I am dying to experience his incredible goalscoring ability (please don't mess this up KONAMI, although from what I've heard on this sub he seems to be fineeeeeee). I once predicted him to be worse than Matthaus, but upon release Lampard seems even better! His Hole Player playing style and complete stats looks like my dream come true.
Having said all that, KONAMI wil likely stick to their trend of releasing new legends in 2021. There's already a plethora of attackers in the pool, so I desperately hope to see more representation among CBs (e.g. Terry, Cannavaro, Nesta, Ferdinand, Vidic), keepers (Yashin, Zoff, Banks, Schmeichel), full-backs (Lahm, Thuram, Neville, Cole) and CMFs (Charlton, Keane, Gerrard, Seedorf). It's also sad to notice not a single African have joined the ranks of Legends, even though there's a literal gold mine out there (Weah, Drogba, Essien, Eto'o, Toure).
And this really is the end of this piece, everyone. Not gonna lie, feeling a bit nervous as this is my first full post in months, but it's been fun writing once again. For lack of a better phrase, what are the best games on android that you can put down and pick up. For example, games like civ or football manager where you input stuff and watch the results afterwards. The chaos of adult life means I really don't get alot of time to sit and play a game that needs live input but have alot of time to pick up a game, watch it for a minute or two then put it back down. Any games like this? Hopefully something with progression? Can be free or paid but preferably offline

A belated Merry Christmas to my fellow readers! Here's a Christmas present just in time for boxing day!
As this is article number twenty (oh dear that's a lot), agian I'd like to try writing on a topic that's a bit special. You'll notice I've done that already in article ten, so think of this as my own interpretation of the Quarter Quell in the Hunger Games, only once every ten articles instead of 25 years.
This time I'd like to write about the business aspect of the game, and attempt to share my thoughts on KONAMI's business model. As supporters of the game, I believe we should have an idea of what keeps the game up and running.
A major caveat here: I'm in no way affiliated with KONAMI, and have no access to the company's financial data. I'm just a guy working in the financial industry who has an interest in these topics, so the best I can say is I'm making educated guesses, nothing more.
With that in mind, let's dive right into it!
Overview
As I'm sure you're aware, PES uses a free-to-play business model. The game is free to download, but offers in game purchases for KONAMI to earn money. KONAMI decides not to rely on ad revenue (which is great IMO, I find ads quite disruptive in other games), so the way to make money mainly boils down to two points: 1) reaching out to potential players; 2) keeping the free-to-play (f2p) players engaged; and 3) converting f2p players into pay-to-play (p2p) by giving a reason for them to spend. I'm going to discuss how KONAMI achieves all three, and if possible, how they could do better.
Reaching out to new players
Online/eSports
Aside from making the game free to download, or posting ads on social media, what better way to attract new players by tapping the eSports market? Personally I stay offline so I might not be the best to comment on this, but I do appreciate KONAMI's effort with the new Matchday feature, at least in terms of generating buzz. It's tied to real-world matches and derbies, prompting supporters to play for their clubs, and features a final with skillful players that is streamed live online.
Aside from the revenue generated during the steaming itself, the main purpose is to create noise, to make players aware of the game, and to show how good the game can be. Then, when people get interested, they'll think, hey I can try it for free on mobile! And that is a good first step.
Sync with console
PES mobile differs from other mobile games that they already have a solid fanbase from the console players. This provides them a unique advantage over other mobile-only games (though not over FIFA, their direct competitor). How can KONAMI turn them into mobile players?
I think the option to send players between consoles and mobile may be a good idea, maybe through the KONAMI account. This makes pesmobile a portable way for console players to obtain players or train players they need for the console, and vice versa.
Of course this needs a great deal of balancing issues (similar prices to obtain players etc) and a shorter development timeframe for mobile (if PES 2021 mobile are to be released with its console counterpart). Hey, all ideas aren't perfect.
Real-world inspired events
Another solid fanbase for pesmobile is football fans. Not necessarily avid gamers in the first place, but they may get interested in football games if given the opportunity.
KONAMI should make use of the hype in real footballing world, just like using derbies in Matchday mode. This can extend to other footballing occasions like the World Cup or EURO. It doesn't necessarily translate to licensing costs, but at least have specific events/agents/gifts related to them. The tiny tiny box draws for each country in WC2018 were great, for example.
Engaging f2p
OK, now you've got the players into the game. How can you get them to playing actively?
Challenging gameplay
First of all, you want to give them a good challenge. Keep them engaged with a nice learning curve. That's easy enough for online play, with countless players of different skill levels around the world. The problems with online gameplay are not it's challenge, but to keep the servers running smoothly, improve matchmaking to align players with their skill levels, and combat cheaters.
For offline gameplay however, the challenge is not that simple. We may complain about scripting all we want, but there's no denying the difficulty in writing a fair but challenging AI opponent. In the meantime, KONAMI is keeping the game fresh by weekly gameplay tweaks, nudging the effectiveness of various plays to force you to adapt. In the long run though, I think investing to write a better AI opponent is worth it, coz there's only so long a player can feel enjoyable trying to best an unfair AI opponent.
Events
Another way to motivate players to keep playing is through events. These weekly challenges can be a drive to keep players coming back week after week, provided that there is enough variety in them, or the rewards are good enough. So far, KONAMI has failed incredibly in the first point, and the second seems rather flat as well. Last year some events gave skill trainers that allow you to bestow random player skills to your favourite players, and the year before that, limit break trainers that increases the level cap of players. These were good incentives in previous years, and we need something similar to those this year.
GP sinks
A good game must have a satisfying reward system, and aside from event rewards, what f2p players get are their GP and the ways to spend them. From the perspective of an in game economy, these ways to spend GP are called GP sinks, which remove GP from the game to prevent players from hoarding GP and stop crazy inflation on auction prizes. Without the stamina system, players can essentially farm GP infinitely, so the game must have good sinks for them to spend their GP, or else farmers will get disengaged quickly.
So far, the GP sinks in this game are agents, scouts and new managers. I'm not counting the contract costs, which should be more or less covered by match GP rewards and/or contract tickets from tours.
Due to the relative unattractiveness of base players, regular agents are basically just there for laughs. The same can be said to box draw agents, right up until the recent release of legends in box draws. You can probably tell by now I am all for legend box draws, but more on that later.
Scouting used to be a big part of PES17, back then when specific players gain a tremendous boost in event bonuses, and with the absence of trading, scouting was the only viable way to obtain a specific player. Scout prices were insanely high when the scouts are relevant to the current event, but otherwise they were fine. In a way, the introduction of trading brought a cap to low-level scouts, not a direct hard cap but an indirect one, as you won't spend millions for a scout combo of a silver player when you can simply scout any silver player thrice. However, due to the lack of inexpensive 100% combos for BBs, prices for 5-star scouts are still sky-high.
There isn't a great urge to spend signing new managers, but we have been presented with more options than ever this year, thanks to the increased management skill of managers in general. Slightly modifying the mechanic in PES19 where we can own doppelganger managers with different formations, I think it would be cool if we have the option to pay GP and renew the contract of existing managers, at the same time updating them to their current formations and tactics, essentially giving us even more choices, and allow die-hard fans to follow their team's latest formation without having to go through the hassle of dismissing and re-signing.
While this section doesn't directly lead to KONAMI's profit, I think it is useful for them to know what f2p players are spending on, and thus the key driver to keep them playing. That way, KONAMI can design privileges accordingly to entice them to spend real money.
Legends
The final part of the f2p gameplay I'd like to address is legends. Collecting legends can be intensely satisfying; in fact, the collection aspect of the game is akin to collecting Pokémon, which led me to believe most of us have an urge to collect stuff somewhere in ourselves.
For all I know, legends are currently positioned as very nostalgic, reasonably strong but inferior to featured players. This is a wise decision on KONAMI's side, giving f2p players something above their usual stuff but not diminishing the p2p advantage.
Adding legends to box draws is a completely different matter, which essentially diminishes the value of legends to free of charge: you can get them regardless as long as you are willing to farm. Opinions are still divided on this decision, for example u/Strictor commenting it to be a mistake in my last article. I think box draw legends are good, but they cannot be too frequent. Their existence gives f2p players something to farm for, and their rarity drives up their perceived value when one actually obtains them.
The good thing about legends is they are an endless gold mine. There are too many players in the past that deserve their own reincarnations. So far KONAMI has been milking them slow, so we can still expect to see new legends get added gradually in the foreseeable future.
p2p - the drive to spend
Now that there are a pool of active players, how can KONAMI reach into their pockets and convert them into p2p?
Coin sales
This is the obvious solution, one which I asked to see more of a few months back. But as I ponder on the matter, the way things work isn't that simple.
Studies have shown that only 5% of app users spend on in-app purchases source, an interesting read too. If this is true for PES, then PES is actually backed by merely a selected few, and those players have to spend quite a lot to keep the game running and the servers running for the remaining 95%. Frequent coin sales may attract new spenders, but the hardcore spenders are gonna spend considerably less, which might not be optimal.
If the point of coin sales is to lower the barrier of entry to new spenders, then the smaller coin packs are the way to go. For example, the 300 coin pack is genius: just enough to empty a club selection without having to sacrifice your lunch. Conversely, I don't really see the point of 6,800 coin packs, those are just going to benefit the big spenders and cut into KONAMI's revenue (Unless 6,800 coins are still not enough for some. In that case, good move KONAMI for rewarding your biggest fans).
So if coin sales are to be a regular thing, then there should be more 300 coin packs to attract new spenders, but fewer large packs to avoid losing lots of revenue from the hardcores. I don't have the actual sales figures, so it's hard to know the spending pattern and recommend a definitive plan for sales, but hopefully I've shown you that coin sales are not always good; balance is key.
Featured players
We've discussed coin pricing, but what about their benefits? Their effects? The pull factor that attracts players to spend money for? Featured players, my friends.
Currently featured players (purples) are some of the strongest players in the game, their relative ease to obtain in p2p attracts new players that want rapid improvements in their teams, and they boasts some of the strongest event bonuses in tour events.
However, the lack of variety is slowly becoming a concern. Yes Barcelona CS players have great stats, but I'm getting a bit tired of them after seeing their CS for like what, a third time? Messi and Ronaldo are in the weekly featured players almost every other week, and after obtaining purple Messi once I lost the drive to spend for featured players with him in the mix. Its like I've already got the grand prize. The game needs new purples to keep them attractive, befitting of the status as the game's ultimate prize.
A good initiative KONAMI has taken is performing surveys. This way KONAMI blatantly asks players what they want, and then give it to them. I just fear a lot of players are still voting for the same few players whenever their name appears, limiting the variety of purples available to us.
Can there be another spark to reinvigorate the interest in purples? Maybe featured versions of legends that corresponds to magical moments of brilliance? Maradona at the Mexico World Cup? Van Basten in the EURO final? Or maybe featured legends that actually have clubs attached to them to get maximum event bonuses? (I'm suggesting legends coz they are an endless source of good players as mentioned, but I'm open to new ideas! Any suggestions guys?)
Exclusive shop
Now aside from purples, KONAMI are actually quite unimaginative when it comes to ways to spend coins. There should be a coin shop for various in-game bonuses, to provide comprehensive advantages to p2p players in various ways. Some examples on the top of my head are:

• Slots for players and manager
  
• Trainers of all kinds (experience, skill, position)
  
• Trade tickets (to obtain any player of choice from a specific rarity)
  
• Chance to play against legendary AI, with great rewards (eg. exclusive players)
  
• Converting carryover players to base players
  

These privileges should ideally be rewarding but not game breaking. In particular, it must not introduce decisive advantage over f2p players in online matches, thereby turning the game from an optional p2p to a pay-to-win.

Disclaimer: everything I write is my own opinion so take it with a grain of salt. You never know who's writing what and why on the internet :)
Long story short, in December 2017 I was at crossroads in my life. Either finishing my endless journey to finish my master in chemistry or reinvent myself. Since by then I did some coding (literally few hundreds line of Python) and I enjoyed the experience I decided to throw all my savings into surviving for enough time till I could get a job as a developer. Meanwhile I would've studied and programmed till I was comfortable applying for jobs. Reflecting back into this long and hard journey I want to share my opinions on what this journey looks like, how does it start and how does it end. My points are in no particular order, albeit I guess I'll write some of those I find most important first.
1) Set a very precise goal. By this I mean a real life goal. This is by far the most important aspect of your journey. You need to have a clear vision on what's the finish line? Are you learning to code because you want to solve some real problem of yours? Maybe you want to automate some tasks you have at your home/job. Maybe you want to crack a videogame, maybe you're moved by curiosity, maybe you like learning new things, maybe you're an entrepeneur with no funds but a very solid idea you want to develop into a real world application. For the rest of this post tho I'll mostly speak from a perspective of who'se learning to code to find a job.
2) If your goal is to find a job look at the job market, not on what's hot on Twitter and Medium. Remember point one? You have to set a very precise goal. A goal such as "I'd like to be a developer and work on videogames" is imho already too vague. Let's assume for a moment that finding a job in the videogame industry is your priority. I can't but think that these two things are sort of exclusive. You're already being focused on a small (but relevant) niche of programming jobs. Yet, what's your priority? Finding a real coding job, or working in the videogame industry? What if you won't find a job in the videogame industry cause there are no companies in your area or you will simply not meet their requirements (likely in the gaming industry). If you'll learn to code in whatever language, I can guarantee you that you will be able to translate that knowledge someday on videogames if that's your goal. You'll have to learn tons of new stuff. But you have the problem solving skills and knowledge of programming to make this step.
Seriously, look at the job market and remember point 1. Are you willing to move abroad? Cross state? Cross country? Cross continent? It'll be harder to find a job that's far from your house. It's harder for a company to ask you to take a flight for an interview. And since you're a self taught developer and not an MIT stellar graduate those expenses will likely be all on you. I did a mistake on pointi in Decembet 2017. I decided that my priority was finding a job and I wanted to be a front end developer. I can't but feel this was a mistake. In my area C#, php and Java works are in a 9:1 ratio to front end JS jobs. So check carefully the companies in your area, literally count the positions and their requirements.
3) Do never, ever, ever, make assumptions on what's harder and what's easier in programming. I did this when I decided to learn front end. This was a huge mistake. It's not true that front end is easier than backend, neither is the opposite, and more importantly you can't even possibly know at this point what you'll like more and you're more adapt to. Don't make assumptions. Just don't. Do never, ever, think that JavaScript is easier than C, nor the opposite. Different tools for different problems with different complexities. I could tell you you could fit everything about C in a 200 pages book, literally everything about the language, and tell you that it would take twice the pages just to give a solid, yet incomplete, picture of objects in JavaScript. You are simply not qualified to know what's "harder" and what's "easier". Neither I am. For the love of god, don't make this mistake. Of course, some aspects of programming leverage more or less maths or creativity or organization or whatever. But can you really tell me that in 24 months from now optimizing rendering and network performance on x platforms will be "easier" than refining algorithms that predict weather based on some geospatial data? Are you sure that managing state in complex real time applications will be easier than writing shaders or teaching a computer how to translate or paint? You simply do not know. Do, not, make, any fuckin assumption of this kind.
4) Be consistent in your learning. How much time do you have to study programming? Are you already a student? Or maybe you're unemployed (as I was) but have enough savings to dedicate yourself to studying. Be realistic about your goals but be consistent. Writing code for 1 hour every day for a week will make you a better programmer, than coding once a week for 7 hours.
5) Do not feel compelled to know everything's that required on the positions you want to apply. This is especially true for frameworks and libraries. There's a reason why top companies focus a lot on data structures and algorithms, they show you can think and solve a problem. More specifically, whatever programming language you choose (any of Java, JavaScript, C#, Python and PHP is likely to find you a job, the others might be more nichey) learn it's fundamentals as best as possible. I learned front end development. I felt this huge need to learn from html to the dom, plenty of libraries, transpiling, webpack, etc, etc. Yet reality is that at job interviews those topics were barely if ever touched. But what they wanted to know is that I really understood JavaScript. I've applied for 3 front end react jobs, I've never been asked a single question about react's ecosystem. Not once, ever. Nobody cared. What they cared of? If I knew what was strict mode, the difference between a function expression and a function declaration, the utility of IIFEs, prototypical inheritance, closures, etc. Nobody gives a damn if you know React's methods (I mean, if you learn React you're supposed to have at least a basic knowledge of how it works), but the core knowledge needed to be a good React developer is knowing JavaScript. If you know JavaScript and the dom, learning React is a matter of a week. If you don't you'll never be a good React developer. Higher order functions, the this binding, those are the real problems and knowledge React developers need everyday. The rest is a google search away. I can tell you that I haven't been asked once something that wasn't written in Eloquent JavaScript, not once. Of course, I did some research and work to understand some topics better. If they ask you what a promise is, you answer that it is an object. Sure, there might be the need to expand. But seriously, just because you used promises, doesn't mean you understand them. Mumbling about "they are something you use to make asynchronous code" might say something more than saying "they are objects". But the second answer simply shows you have no understanding of JavaScript. Plain and simple. Maybe you get they are objects because they are declared with the new keyword, but you really need to understand the basics of JavaScript. The same applies for any other language. The overwhelming majority of errors and bugs that will make you bang your head on the wall derive from lack of proper understanding of the basics of a language. Just because you read something, doesn't mean you absorbed it, even less mastered it. It's hard to trust a person who has 10 skills/tools on their cv, yet he didn't really master one.
6) Try to find a mentor. Plenty of people more experienced than you are active on slacks, irc, discord, etc. You may find somebody willing to help you long term. Also there are the beautiful people on ##javascript on freenode which have been an invaluable learning experience for me and I thank all the members here (especially ljharb, slikts, stennowork, liste, innovati, zsoc, cjhonson, qswz, GreenJello, sillyslux). Mind you I'm not inviting any of you to contact these people, they help in general chats not one on one, I'm not aware of them doing any mentoring, I found some mentors here on reddit and on a slack channel for developers in my area. Two tips: don't abuse the patience and will of a mentor to help you. If you keep asking basic questions that can be googled or found in basic books (such as Kochan's C book or Eloquent for JavaScript) they will get tired of you and start answering less and less. The second tip: programmers, all of them, including you, they love to feel the smartest person around, I think it's the nature of people that solve problems through logic. Abuse this fact to find information you need. A simple example: if you go in a chatroom and write "lol I didn't know you could bind arrow functions" you'll get 20 answers telling you why you're write (and wrong). If you go in a chatroom and ask "how does this work in arrow functions?" you may not receive any answer.
7) Understand what programming is: you take data as input, you do something with it, you generate an output. That's what every meaningful program or subroutine does. Nothing less nothing more. I wish somebody told me that when I started and stared at this overwhelming amount of endless information. In the end, I was always solving the very same problem over and over. Each time differently, with different tools, different approaches, but every program as small as you think about it does that. You may add two numbers: input numbers -> process- -> output sum. You may want to render a 3d model on the screen: camera + matrice of vertices -> process -> 2d image on the screen. You may want to set your profile picture on a website: data input + address -> process -> response from server. That's all there is to programming, and that's why algorithms and data structures are the backbone of most top companies interviews: because that's all there is to computing. data -> processing -> data. That being said I know very little of data structures and algorithms. I'm unlikely to implement a merge algorithm or implement complex data structures and they were never really asked at any interview. Just knowing time complexity and different utility of different data structures was more than enough for my interviews. But that might differ in other companies and positions.
8) Understand what programmers do. They solve problems through the use of code. That's why it is very required that you bang your head on a wall when you can't find a solution to your coding problem. When I started I was desperate when I was writing a small demo and every time I pressed a button the page refreshed. Even asking around I couldn't find the reason. In the end it was something pretty trivial: button elements without a type attribute are treated as submits. Submits by default refresh the page when triggered. Many people looked at my code and couldn't find the reason and yet they overlooked this very trivial issue. But in reality that's what's going to happen over and over: why "foo" is not a function? Why is my program reading the property of undefined? As a programmer you solve problems (often created by yourself). If you think that following some bullshit video cours on youtube/udemy will make you a programmer you're in for a bad time. Looking at people solving problems for you means you are not developing your problem solving skills. When you don't understand why something's not behaving resist the urge from googling right away, or asking somebody more experienced. Please understand that this is exactly how's your job gonna look like. Get good at solving problems. Some might be syntax problems (as the ones before), some will be performance related, etc. Regardless. Learn to solve problems, embrace the power of debuggers. Understand that code is merely an implementation of an idea. Get used to program with pencil and paper. Define well your problems, input, output and how to go from one to the other. Organize your code. Look at your mess of spaghetti code, at your messy and poorly named functions and variables, at the code you can't already follow after few hundred lines. Then improve it.
9) Have a basic knowledge of how computers (so every single device out there) works. Seriously. Knowing von Neumann's architecture basics and the memory model is the very least you should know and you can learn this things in few hours. Even wikipedia, youtube or some blog are enough, but learn it. The memory model and the call stack will then no longer be something complex and your code will get better and you'll learn coding faster. No longer you'll wonder why you can't mutate a string or why why you pass non primitive types by reference rather than value. This will have a meaningful impact on your learning speed and understanding on how computers work (from our perspective, at least).
10) Don't learn from videos. The more advanced and nichey stuff you'll have to do the less resources you will have to solve it. Get used to write programs only with resources that require you one google search and as little information as possible. You'll have to use libraries with poor or no documentation. You'll have to look at the code to understand why that library is mutating that particular object or it is behaving differently from expected. Go on github, look at popular libraries. They are overwhelmed of problems. And the dozens of brilliant engineers that wrote this technology never had this issue before you. I understand this is advanced stuff. But it's a good habit. I have yet to see a single code topic that cannot be learned better through reading the code or some well written book/article than some video. But it's much better to receive a salary, learn in a comfortable environment under the guidance of senior developers and then go home and play with Rust or watch talks about immutability if you want to than do it when you have a different goal.

Here you have basically two options: contribute to open source (either write some library/module people use, even a good pull request is a nice on a CV) or develop something people use. Even if it's for free. I didn't go with the first, but I went for the second. I developed a small application for a football club in my city that needed to inform players of the various youth teams who was going to play on sunday game. Nothing too impressive, nothing too pretty, but it's something hundreds of people use every single week. Maybe you have a smart tv and you're tired of transferring files with your usb to watch your shows you have on your hard disk? You've got a router..You've got a tv that you can install program to? Maybe spend a month to write some very basic, even ugly, but working application that allows for data transfer between your computer and tv? Somebody's gonna use it. Solve real world problems, for real world people. Those are sound things to put on a cv. They give you endless opportunities to talk about how you solve problems. What did you do well, what sucked? I didn't use no state manager on my first react application, as the application grew I encountered plenty of problems due to that and maintaining code got harder. I met a real world problem, I solved it, I know if and why my solution was good or bad. Look around you, what problem you can solve and help somebody? Start from your own problems and move asap on somebody's else. Even if it means it's for free.

So nobody recommends you, nobody uses anything you wrote, your github is a collection of initialized and abandoned projects and copy cuts from tutorials, you're asked about basic stuff (which is the hardest questions btw) and you are not providing clear confident answers who's gonna pay you?
13)** Bonus**: if you have more than 6-7 months to prepare before you'll start actively looking for jobs one thing I may recommend you is to start with the C programming language. C is a small language, it doesn't have many things, most C books are shorter than any introduction to higher level languages. Learning C teaches you a lot about computing. An awful lot. To put it differently. I'm confident that if I spent 2 months learning C (at least 4 hours a day) and solving easy and intermediate leetcode or similar problems and then spent 4 months learning another higher language I'd be a much better programmer than if I just started in this other higher language. There's much too much focus on too many technologies, there's too much noise in higher level languages. You'll be tempted way too soon to move from "how do I go from input to output" which is the very essence of programming to developing full programs. I know that text input and output isn't sexy, but remember point 1? We want the best and possibly the shortest path to get ourselves onto being decent and proficient asap. C might be slower at first. But then you move unto another language and not only you'll find that in the end you're solving the same problems you were solving with C (because it's always the same fuckin problem as I told you) but you need to do so with an endless amount of different APIs and conflicting, similar methods.
14) Bonus 2: learn to manage your time. You're sitting behind a computer all day learning how to code. It's tempting to go on lichess, launch league or procrastinate but it's lots of time wasted. You can easily cut off large amount of weeks/months needed to reach a decent level of preparation by managing your time better.

KONAMI's coin strategy for PES19 is simple. While initially it seems a better value for money, as 250 coins gives you 3 players instead of 1 in last year. As a result, players just get more crap players but a similar number of good players. Thus I believe the intrinsic value of coins were more or less the same across two years.
However, the above strategy gave them the excuse to remove coin sales, which were a frequent thing in PES18. Back then I bought all the 300-coin packs every time they were on sale. This year, I've only seen coin sales once or twice. Especially so since nowadays box draws are available for purchase with GP.
KONAMI, if you want me to open my wallet, put your stuff on sale. I am happy to part with my cash to reduce the hassle of GP farming as long as the deal is good.
Realistic injuries
"What?" You might ask, "you want KONAMI to get our players injured?" Hear me out.
Injuries are like an urban legend to me. Every now and then a post appears on this sub where the person expresses his/her shock of seeing a player injured. In the 2.5 long years since I've downloaded PES17, I've never had a player sustain any injury. This seems absurdly comical to any football fan.
Injuries are a natural part of football, so there's no reason for them to be absent in a football game. Instead, it forces us to rotate players in the squad and experiment with new players.
Also injuries should last for more than one match. The current 1 match ban from suspensions is kinda lame, I just switch to a different squad, play a game and voila! Dude's back in no time. I think injuries can last for a certain period of time (e.g. An hour or two) or a period of several matches, to really make a slightly lasting impact on the squad and force you to adapt.
Managers and their formations
IMO KONAMI has done a phenomenal job last year to give us live formation updates. But that unintentionally led to multiple managers with the same name and then the signable managers update fiasco.
Another problem I currently have with manager formations is the lack of variety between offensive and defensive styles. The only meaningful difference between them is tactics, whereas formations are largely consistent aside from individual player position changes.
Instead of signing managers, I suggest learning specific formations for a manager. Each week new live formations are released for each manager, and players pay for that manager to learn that live formation (save it in one of the two slots, offensive and defensive). When purchasing a formation for a manager not yet owned, he/she signs that manager (perhaps for a signing fee) into the team. This way, a great deal of variety and customization is introduced, allowing structral formation changes during the middle of the match and personalization based on individual playing styles.
A level playing field
The transition between PES19 and PES20 seems to be a trending topic in this sub right now. I think KONAMI has a difficult job in its hands, mainly to balance between the following objectives: 1. Ensure veterans feel comfortable by not losing too much previous progress; 2. Keep veterans motivated in the coming season by leaving room for improvement 3. Keeping the game new-player-friendly. That's like tightrope walking.
While I was happy with what I got during the transition to PES19, a small part of me felt that it was too kind to veterans. It's true we didn't lose our best players but it's also true that we didn't use them a lot this season. Most of them were maxed and I had no reason to train them anymore. Their squad value in events was bad, so I'm better off training my new players.
For this year's transition, I'd like to see a more nuanced approach: let us keep a handful of players, say 50. Yeah we lose a lot but it's also a lot better than full resets done by some other games (cough).
Experienced players can build a solid team out of his base and legend players, but their advantage doesn't snowball into future years like it used to. Now they have a sea of new players to obtain and train, keeping them motivated in the game.
On the other side of the spectrum, with the help of new featured players next year, new players can quickly catch up to veterans. With the lower threshold of players carried forward, they can easily meet said threshold in a year and reach veteran status when the update for PES21 eventually arrives.
I know this is far from the perfect solution and will certainly lead to considerable backlash, but I believe the current generosity in transitions is not sustainable. KONAMI has some hard decisions to make in this area.
Gameplay fixes
Minor rant warning:
PES19 has its flaws, bit it's still undoubtedly the gameplay king of mobile football/soccer games (albeit behind PES18). This is the biggest edge KONAMI has over their competitors and they need to keep it that way and up the game next year. They did it in 2018, they should be able to do it two years later.
First of all, player switching has been a persistent issue. Currently no more than one person may go towards a loose ball, so the inability to switch to another player when the one you control is dozing off is utterly ridiculous. AI also quite frequently misjudges whether you are on or off the ball, which leads to wrong buttons being presented to the player. This has led to hundreds of missed chances where my striker attempts to slide tackling instead of shooting in front of a loose ball in the box.
Another problem is the lag. I have been using the same phone (Oneplus 3T) over the year, but lately the game has been unbearably laggy, even vs COM. Even with 30fps and low graphic settings, players are unresponsive (putting it mildly) to my commands through the d-pad. Meanwhile my phone works fine with other apps. Not every player uses the latest iPhone or Samsung, so make sure those with budget phones can enjoy the game as well.
When it comes to unresponsiveness in d-pad controls, passing and dribbling are the worst offenders, especially in the last two weeks. Possession-oriented passing play has been nearly impossible for me, with passes either taking forever to reach the target, or they go so fast past the target who takes ages to turn. Similarly, dribbling has been a mess since recently. Skill move timings are off (yep lagging); moves that used to be reliable (Marseille turn, double touch etc) don't work properly most of the time; the best I can do is face away from the tackler, retain possession for a moment and pass away the ball, that's it. Maybe these are tweaks to nerf online tactics, but they affect offline gameplay significantly and sometimes makes the game unenjoyable.
Then there is superstar difficulty.
Some call it scripting, others call it difficulty scaling. KONAMI uses a crude way to introduce difficulty, by nerfing the abilities of your players and buffing the opponents. I'm fine with buffing the opponents, but I hate it when my all-star 4k-rated squad play like toddlers. KONAMI, stop trying to nerf our good players. They are supposed to perform well and kick arse. Taking that away is disrespecting those talented footballers, while disregarding the efforts we players spend to obtain them and level them up.
I am hoping for a smart enough AI that could beat me even if my players perform as they should. If my Messi makes a decent pass to my Higuain on the run, but defender VVD reads it and intercepts fairly, sure! More of that please! But if my Messi makes the pass but puts far too much power, Higuain suddenly stops his sprint before the pass, and VVD slowly walks towards the loose ball, that's "scripting" gone too far. There's a vast enjoyment difference between the two scenarios above. Asking this level of AI might still be a long way to go, but should be a worthwhile investment in the long run.
