Eurovision 2020 Odds: Italy Favourite To Win | 26 January

bookies favourite for eurovision 2020 - win

I have finally sat down & listened to all 41 songs for this year, here are my thoughts...

Btw this is going to be a long one!
I'm a long time Eurovision fan from the UK, I've been so busy that I have only just had time to listen to the songs, I've tried to avoid any Eurovision 2020 vlogs/social media to not be biased but I have heard the UK, Russia's and Serbia's entries before binge watching the entries and I was aware that Bulgaria, Iceland and Lithuania seemed to be the favourites.
Also, this is based on my first impression listening to each song once & going off the video that ESC selected for the 2020 playlist (apart from Serbia, I watched the NF not the MV). Also, my opinions may seem harsh and negative but there aren't any songs that I actually hate. I think it's more interesting to comment on what you see as the drawbacks/what would've needed improving than just saying how much I love every song.
Albania - Katy Perry-ish, ok ballad, strong ending
Armenia - Very modern/7 rings, very unique for ESC yet sounds like mainstream UK radio (CapitalXtra)
Australia - Weak vocal, not special, would they have done a 360 like 2019 (I didn't think Zero Gravity was as weak to begin with)
Austria - Carbon Copy of Nobody's Business by Rihanna/Chris Brown, but is different for Austria and I did enjoy it
Azerbaijan - Unexpected chorus yet disappointing? Wonder how the live vocals would've been...
Belarus - Love that it's not in english, weak chorus, very basic choreo
Belgium - I'd like the song more if I knew it wasn't from Belgium, I get 2015 was successful but year after year sending the same dark pop genre is getting boring.
Bulgaria- Cute song, very Billie Eilish (which I don't mind) but idk how I would've felt with Bulgaria winning, knowing that the first thing people would think when listening to the song is Billie, not how great the song is (also they've sent better entries). Also did wish that vocally it did go somewhere in the end.
Croatia - Why do the same thing 2 years in a row, especially when it did not worked the first year (coming from someone who loved Croatia last year)?!
Cyrpus - Very Lose Control by Becky Hill, I do love house music though!
Czech Republic - Disappointing chorus
Denmark- Very P!nk (Walk Me Home), lacked chemistry between singers, was distracted by how Dansk MGP made a stage that looks so similar to ESC 2019!
Estonia,Finland & France - Boring, Boring, Boring but like the mix of French/English
Georgia - I appreciate that it's unique, not for me and very weak lyrically
Germany - lacks emotion/charisma in the MV, wonder what the live vocals would be like..
Greece - Song is great, would have done really well if they were able to sex it up in the chorus (with an older artist) when it comes to staging/choreo but they obviously wouldn't be able to do that since she's 17 and it would be inappropriate
Iceland- Appreciate it not being a ballad, it's not my favourite and would be scared that juries would rank this very low.
Ireland - Cute song, throwback ESC song that this year was missing, very late 00's early 2010s, Stefania should be singing this not a woman in her 30s!
Israel - At the moment, this is my favourite! Was initially disappointed with the 1st half of the chorus then the 2nd half more than makes up for it, wish there were more high notes at the end!
Italy - 4th year in a row sending a male artist and as much as I appreciate Italy always preaching authenticity, I would like for them to change things up and send something more fun/europop and dare I say.. trashy!
Latvia - Unique, can see it being divisive, staging would've determined the outcome for the entry
Lithuania - Cool video I guess.. Is it a winner for me? No
Malta - Her JESC entry was way better, it's good but I expected so much more from Destiny
Moldova - Boring
Netherlands - Boring and sounds like a ballad that every pop star just puts at the end of the album just for the sake of having variety in an album.
North Macedonia - Great voice, they've been hit or miss with staging and this song largely would depend on it!
Norway - Basic ballad
Poland - I feel like juried would love this
Portugal - Pretty song, wish she harmonised with the pianist/backing vocals more
Romania - Beautiful voice but strong accent which shows her weak english
Russia - I wonder who they would've gotten ridden of since they're only allowed 6 on stage, I think they would've won in the same way how Toy won (the hype would've pushed it to win yet would've been unique enough for most who are watching for the first time). Only thing that would stop it winning was the juries.
San Marino - I know disco got them their best result last year but come on...
Serbia - Both blondes vocals can be a little stronger but if Sacha Jean Baptiste did the choreo they were guaranteed Top 10, also I'm guessing Juvederm was sponsoring Serbia this year!
Slovenia - She sounds like she has a blocked nose
Spain - Disappointing chorus, verses are strong
Sweden - The Mamas should've waited until they were missed, I feel like no one is that bothered that they most like aren't coming back! Disappointed that this is what we got after finally not getting a solo male artist for the last 5 years!
Switzerland - One of the better ballads but people are saying it could've won?!?!?!
Ukraine - At first I thought ok Emmelie de Forest! And as much as I appreciate culture and want to like these songs, her voice is grating just like Poland 2019!
UK - Us brits/BBC are way too optimistic, you all said the same thing last year "Finally we have a chance!". BBC would get a backing vocalist to do the high pitch "Breath" bit that would sound awful live! Just like how Finland ruined Saara Aalto with those terrible backing vocalists trying to do the high pitched "I ain't scared no more". Also why would you send another slow ballad, by a white male who look a little similar especially when we came last the year before!
I hope that this doesn't get taken down because I do want to know: what songs am I in complete disagreement with the fandom, who were considered the strong entries, who actually were the bookies favourites, who were the fandom worried about not qualifying but absolutely loved, were countries in danger of losing their qualification records etc...
